五九、富貴名譽 來自道德

59. Riches and honor should be derived from the cultivation of morality.

富貴名譽，自道德來者，如山林中花，自是舒徐繁衍；自功業來者，如盆檻中花，便有遷徙興廢；若以權力得者，如瓶缽中花，其根不植，其萎可立而待矣。

【今文解譯】

財富、地位、名聲和榮譽若由道德而得來，自會像山林中的野花，舒展從容，繁衍不絕；若由功業而得來，就會像盆栽的花朵，遷徙得法則盛開，遷徙不得法則凋敝；若由權勢而得來，就會像插在瓶缽裏的花朵，因為沒有根基而很快枯萎。

【English Translation】

Man’s riches and honor, if derived from the cultivation of morality and virtue, are like wild flowers in the mountains and forests, and will naturally flourish and multiply; if obtained by the means of personal exploits, are like flowers in discs, and might flourish when well transplanted and wither when not; and if seized by force of political power or trickeries, are like rootless flowers in vases, and will die down before you get tired by standing.
