23. How can a claim unable to come into existence in dreams be clarified in the netherworld?

眉睫才交①，夢裏便不能張主②；眼光落地③，泉下④又安得分明？

① 眉睫才交：雙眼閉合，即睡覺狀。

② 張主：闡述主張。

③ 眼光落地：指垂死之人的目光。典自宋代洪邁的《夷堅支誌甲·巴東太守》：“蓋將亡時精神消散，所謂眼光落地者此歟？”以及朱熹的《答呂子約書》之七：“魄之降乎土，猶今人言眼光落地雲爾。”

④ 泉下：黃泉之下，也即去世。

【今文解譯】

雙目閉合，安然入睡，誰也不能在夢中闡述醒時的主張。

眼皮耷拉著的將亡之人，即使未入陰間又能看清什麼呢？

Tossing in the land of dream with the eyes fully closed, no one can enunciate what he thinks about while awake.

How can a dying person see with drooping eyelids, even if not yet settled in the netherworld?

人了了不知了 不知了了是了了
