24. Seemingly intelligent and perceptive are those who have no idea about being free of mundane concerns, and therefore do not know what extrication is.

佛隻是個了仙，也是個了聖。人了了不知了，不知了了是了了；若知了了，便不了。

【今文解譯】

佛隻是個了卻了塵緣的神仙，也是個擺脫了一切煩惱的聖人。貌似聰明的人不知道該了卻心裏的煩惱，所以不明白隻有了卻了心裏的煩惱才是真正的聰明。如果心裏還有想了卻煩惱的念頭，那便是還有煩惱尚未了卻。

【English Translation】

Buddha is but an immortal free of mundane concerns, and also a saint that has extricated himself from the way of the world. Whoever is seemingly intelligent and perceptive has no idea about being free of mundane concerns, and therefore does not know that one who has extricated oneself from the way of the world is really intelligent and perceptive. Any attempt to seek the freedom and extrication indicates the absence of the said.
