二九、憂勤勿過 待人勿枯

29. In performing your duties, not be overstrained; and in dealing with people, not be indifferent.

憂勤是美德，太苦則無以適性怡情；澹泊是高風，太枯則無以濟人利物。

【今文解譯】

工作勤勉是一種美德，然而一味地講求苦幹則不利於自己性情的調適。

淡泊名利是一種高風亮節，然而過於清心寡欲則對人類社會毫無助益。

【English Translation】

To spare no effort in performing one’s duties is a good virtue; but if overstrained, it will be of no help to cheering the mind and pleasing the feelings.

Being indifferent to fame and wealth is a noble character; but if overdone, it will be of no worth for the benefit of the humans and the world.
