二七、誌在林泉 胸懷廊廟

27. Keep in mind the ambition and statecraft to serve the country while lodging your aspiration in the forests and fountains.

居軒冕之中①，不可無山林的氣味②；處林泉之下，須要懷廊廟③的經綸④。

【注 釋】

① 居軒冕之中：軒冕，古代卿大夫的軒車和冕服；居軒冕之中，喻身居高位、俸祿豐厚的官員。

② 山林的氣味：山林，與此後的“林泉”二字同義，喻指與世無爭；氣味，氣息；山林的氣味，可理解為與世無爭的意趣或情調。

③ 廊廟：朝廷。此處表示治國安邦的意思。

④ 經綸：本意為經過整理的蠶絲。此處喻規劃、管理政治的才能。結合前麵的“廊廟”二字，可理解為“治國安邦的抱負和才能”。

【今文解譯】

身居要職的，不可沒有山林居士那種淡泊名利的閑情逸致。

以林泉為伴的，不可沒有胸懷天下、經濟國家社稷的才誌。

【English Translation】

Those who enjoy high positions and handsome salaries should not dispense with the plain makings of the hermit in mountains and forests. Contrarily, those who live in seclusion far from the earthly world must be always provided with ambitions and talents to serve the country and people.
