12. In dealing with people, better be large-minded and tolerant; and in bestowing favors, better let them spread far and wide.
麵前的田地①要放得寬,使人無不平之歎;身後的惠澤②要流得久,使人有不匱③之思。

① 田地:處所,境地。此處喻為人處世。
② 惠澤:恩澤,德澤。
③ 匱:空乏,窮盡。
【今文解譯】
為人處世要得體大方,不要讓人因你而哀歎世道不公。
身後的德澤要流傳得越久越好,要讓人永遠感念不盡。
【English Translation】
In dealing with people, better be as large-minded and tolerant as you can, thus you will not make them sigh with complaint.
In bestowing bounties, better let them spread as far and wide as they may, so that the bestowed will owe an endless debt of gratitude even after your death.
