七、真味是淡 至人如常

7. Genuine flavor only lies in light and mild food; and a man of perfect morality is no different from ordinary people.

醲肥辛甘①非真味，真味隻是淡；神奇卓異②非至人③，至人隻是常。

【注 釋】

① 醲肥辛甘：泛指豐盛的酒菜。

② 神奇卓異：標新立異，與眾不同。

③ 至人：修為和學識達到最高境界的人。俗稱高人。

【今文解譯】

美酒佳肴並不是真正的美味，真正的美味是清淡甘平。

標新立異並不是高人的作為，高人的作為與常人無異。

【English Translation】

Genuine flavor is derived not from good wine and delicious food, but from that which tastes light and mild.

The man of perfect morality is not such a one who is peculiar in action, but the one who is similar to ordinary people.
