山棲是勝事，稍一縈戀①，則亦市朝②；書畫賞鑒是雅事，稍一貪癡，則亦商賈；詩酒是樂事，稍一曲人，則亦地獄；好客是豁達事，稍一為俗子所擾，則亦苦海③。

① 縈戀：迷戀。此處意為流連忘返。

② 市朝：集市與朝廷。

③ 苦海：此處含倒胃口之意。

【今文解譯】

短棲山林是美事，但倘若迷上那兒不走了，山林也就成市井朝廷了。

賞鑒書畫是興味雅事，但倘若沉溺其中，雅事也就成商家的買賣了。

作詩飲酒是樂事，但倘若強勸而使人為之，樂事也就如同下地獄了。

好客是大方之舉，但倘若稍有庸俗的人摻和進來，事情也就變味了。

Sojourning in the mountains is a joyful thing; but if one is too enchanted with it, the mountains will turn into marketplace or imperial court.

Collecting and appreciating the calligraphies and paintings of notables are matters of elegance; but if too crazy about so doing, one will look like a merchant.

Verse-composing and wine-drinking are pleasant things; but if done against the will of others, they will soon serve like a hell.

Being hospitable is a generous act; but if slightly disturbed by a vulgarian, the felt warm atmosphere will become disgusting.
