食中山之酒①，一醉千日，今之昏昏逐逐②，無一日不醉。趨名者醉於朝③，趨利者醉於野④，豪者⑤醉於聲色車馬。安得一服清涼散，人人解酲⑥？

① 中山之酒：一種據說是中山人狄希釀造的、能讓人一飲醉千日的烈酒。

② 昏昏逐逐：昏昏沉沉，不可終日。

③ 朝：朝廷。隱喻官場。

④ 野：原意指與“朝廷”相對的“民間”。此處借喻跟利益相關的“生意場”。

⑤ 豪者：整天花天酒地、縱情享樂的人。

⑥ 解酲：酲，醉酒狀。解酲。即解酒或醒酒之意。

【今文解譯】

清醒的人喝了中山烈酒，就會一醉不起，千日不醒。而今天的人們盡管滴酒不沾，卻也似喝醉了酒一般，整日裏沉醉於對聲色名利的追逐之中：好名的沉醉於升官加爵，好利的沉醉於斂財致富，好縱情享樂的沉醉於花天酒地。哪裏能找到使人清醒的良藥，拯救這些沉醉中的人們？

【English Translation】

It was told that a sip of the strong liquid brewed by the master of Zhongshan Mountain could make a clear-headed one lost in drunkenness for a thousand days. But people of present day, though without drinking a drop of wine, are all too intoxicated to be themselves each and every day: those longing for fame and rank are so intoxicated with the court; those striving for economic profit are so intoxicated with the fair; and those engaged in extravagance are so intoxicated with luxury and sensuality. O where to find a medication to act as the dose of sobriety to dispel the intoxications and draw the intoxicated ones back to a clear-headed state!
